simply delicious review

If you’re looking for full service dining, Simply Delicious at 1105 North Plum Street, Springfield is not the place. If you’re looking for good food at a reasonable price, it is.
The quaintness of the building lends it an old world charm that wouldn’t be out of place in the woods of Vermont. To find it in the rust belt of the Midwest makes it all the more alluring to anyone looking for quality, homemade food.
I visited there for lunch. I ordered a Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad, while my companion ordered the special, Herb Crusted Pork Tenderloin, Scalloped Potatoes, Broccoli with Cheese Sauce, Garden Salad, and Roll.
The greens of the Ceasar salad were crisp, but the tomatoes were mushy. I can’t hold the tomatoes against the place as this is not the time of year for them. It probably would have been better to leave them out altogether. The dressing, which is made on the premises, came in to-go containers. Though the presentation was lacking, the taste of the Caesar dressing more than made up for it. It’s rare that you find Caesar dressing that sports the distinctive aftertaste of anchovy and real Parmesan chunks. The chicken was somewhat of a disappointment. It is prepared ahead of time, for the sake of quickness, and is served cold on the salad. The portion was perfect but the chunks of chicken could have been cut into smaller pieces. Crisp croutons and sprinkled Parmesan completed the dish.
I ordered the Ceasar salad because it is one of my singularly favorite dishes. Simply Delicious understands what aficionados like in Ceasar dressing. At $7.95 (7.15 with Wittenberg discount), can’t wait for the next visit.
My companion found the Herb Crusted Pork Tenderloin to be moist but the serving size was bordering on the miniscule. The Potatoes and Broccoli were gooey and rubbery. The salad was adequate. The special was $8.95 (6.95 with Wittenberg discount), a little pricey for what you received but the Witt discount made it a bargain.
Though Simply Delicious borders on the self service, there are nice touches. They serve real butter with their rolls. The place appears clean. The deli counter contains prepared salads, desserts, and other items that are clearly marked with the date they were made. Someone has obviously taken pains to ensure that one comes away with the impression that they know exactly what they are doing and they are doing it well.
In this day of chains and generic, fast food, it’s nice to find a place that doesn’t let quality suffer for the sake of economy and time. Simply Delicious is a nice alternative to the meal plan of the University and a place to escape. To receive the Wittenberg discount, anyone with a Wittenberg ID gets ten percent off. Students receive two dollars off of daily dinner specials with a student ID. The hours are Monday – Friday 11:00 am – 6:30 pm. You can order ahead. The order line opens at 8:30am. The number is 937-324-3600.
